My wife and I built a house in 2007. This morning I woke up to the smell of burning plastic/something electronic.
Went to the basement and discovered the Venmar air exchanger motor was smoking. It was quickly unplugged.
I called my HVAC guy, new motor runs $450.
Did some googling and noticed that there was a safety recall issued by Venmar sometime in 2007 for the same issue we had, burning motor - potentionally starting a house fire. Our model number and year of manufacturing are part of the recall.
Does failing to register under a safety recall or registering the exchanger void the warranty work under recall?
I only ask because if I remember right, a car company will change out something even after the 'warranty' has lapsed if its a safety issue. Also - kinda disappointed in the HVAC guy for not even mentioning the recall on the same product he sells. Only to state, it will be $450.
Any comments?
