Hello everyone, i have a question on insulation in a 24x32 pole barn 10' ceiling , i insulated ceiling with r19 with wmp 50 facing between trusses using band system. i have ridge vent and 12" soffit vents , walls are insulating with r19 with wmp50 facing also, should wall insulation join soffit for ventilating wall, or should the wmp 50 facing be used to seal top of wall from soffit, i used unvented propane heater " i know" moisture in air but did get condensation on top of walls that were sealed with wmp 50 facing. The open soffits on other side were not sealed and did not have condensation. should i leave them unsealed to prevent moisture ever getting trapped in wall? or should it be sealed . Thanks

wmp 50 is a white polypropolen vinyl with strings for reinforcement and a foil like backing, they use it commercial buildings very sturdy facing

If you are asking should you seal the wall insulation facing to the ceiling insulation facing the answer is yes. You want the inside vapor barrier all sealed to prevent any interior moisture from ever being able to get to the cold framing members or exterior sheathing.

ok thanks , iwas going to continue vapor barrier to ceiling, the othe rquestion is the walls on the sides are open to the soffits above should the insuation continue to bottom of soffit or should the wall insulation be sealed from the soffit . thanks

Your wall insulation can stop at the same height as the top of your ceiling insulation. so on gable end walls you don't need to go any higher than that....on your truss/rafter walls you want to maintain your soffit vents open to allow the air to enter at the soffits and be pulled out by the ridge vent. You will often hear on this board about using baffels or insul board to maintain proper air flow from the soffits to above the line of ceiling insulation....the insulation often clogs the proper air flow at this point and honestly unless you use a raised heel truss you end up with a less than full thickness of insulation at this intersection point.
