Venter motor QUestion; compatibility

A volunteer group I'm involved with recently started sharing warehouse space with a long time contact of mine. I was in there today & he was saying about the Reznor GAs Unit heater wasn't working, he called someone in & they told him there's at least $500 in repairs to it, that he should put a new one in for $1700.
I have basic knowledge of gas heaters from my school days , so I had a look. The venter motor was not spinning and the oustide fan blade was stiff to turn. I blew the motor out with compressed air, put some oil on the shafts with a long spouted oiler. The furnace fired right up after that , and the motor spins freely.
I looked online for a replacement motor with no luck . how universal are these motors usually. would there be a cross reference somewhere? etc.
was the repair guy just using the fact the motors are not available and the unit is toast?

IMHO, the repair guy was looking at making some money on the sale of a new heater.

I think I have had good luck extending the service of those motor my just taking the rotor out, clean and re-oil the shafts especially the end where the bronze bushing is... there is a cotton or hemp or some sort of fiber wad that kept the oil soaked. 0-20 or alike those 3-in-1 I have also used. But that was just a bathroom fan though similar looking shaded pole motor.


maybe something like these for your Renzor? Given this is for commercial purpose, last thing I would want to deal with is ... those dreaded ever since you touch it... .. I would call Reznor and ask them... what motor or at least search by the heater model ?

actually I went back today, it's still working like a charm... and I had another look at the motor, it is actually MOD JA1M213N not "M"
they are available for $100 plus

if It was my house, I would try and repair it till it dies and died again and again... but your friend's rented warehouse, just buy the direct replacement, and don't fuzz with it... $100 $150.. it's all good.

As of this afternoon I was told it's rocking like a new unit . if ( when ) it ceases up again I will take it off the heater, remove the end caps and properly lubricate it... I mean, totally F it up

Before you buy a motor see if you can the inducer wheel. If the fan is pushing air through the burner theres a chance not so much if its flue gas. Check out ebay for the parts.

It's not that difficult to greased them up. I do that every year with my normal Fans. The fiber disc you can cut it from a cotton pads, if you don't have the proper wool fiber discs or find one. everything else is pretty straight forward.

It's just that is for business, and not yours, unless it's a really good friend and strap for cash. I'll just ask him/her to get a new motor/part instead.

My quick fix lasted a while, then it started to act up again. Just got back from the warehouse. Took the motor off, took it apart ( had to bend crimp tabs to get the end caps off as not thru bolted together )
blew it out with air, lubed iup the bushings and put it back together .I am confident this will be a longer term fix

Sometimes all we can do is fix stuff well enough to allow them to last long enough to become someone else's problem.

Well, about 18 days later and the motor is acting up again. it's tight and wont spin again.
One more shot at it, I'm going to try using some grease on the shafts .

plan on replacing the blower wheel at the same time. you probably wont be able to the old wheel off

Most inducer motors I've ever changed come with a new wheel.

I would change that motor already, unless you like see your friends...

but anyways, do not use grease, use light motor oil... grease will caked up and gum up after a while.
