Ventilation above tin ceiling

My three stall attached is finally getting a ceiling this year. Going with metal barn liner.

First thought? Grab the screw gun and pop that stuff up real quick-like. Then I got to thinking... it already gets hotter than Haiti up there in the summer. Am I asking for trouble to just haul off and close it off?

Soooooo..... there is a VERY narrow ridge vent running along the top of the peak - can't be more than 2" wide. My roof is a 1/1 pitch, roof vents are not an option. I'm leaning towards getting a thermostat operated gable fan mounted on the back side.

When that thing fires up, am I better off to create a vacuum through the soffits under my eaves, or should I pop a few ceiling vents into the new ceiling so it also draws air up from the garage below?

Tyvek above the Dura-Panels? Keep the money in my pocket?

Technically, you have eave vents and a ridge vent and the air is supposed to flow in at the eaves and out at the ridge through convection.

But in an open garage a lot of builders will "forget" about the eave vents.

Sammerdog I wouldnt leave any vents in the garage itself. I can tell you on a hot day if I leave the attic access open in my garage and we get some wind you can feel the heat pouring into the garage from the attic ( which usually reminds me to close it back up ) . I would make sure the eave vents are open and functioning and once the tin ceiling is in place consider blowing in some insulation on top of it or stapling up some bats before hanging the tin.

Convection vents probably the easiest. I would stick a plastic vapor barrier up before the tin in case you want to insulate sometime.

Thank you guys. Yup, I have the "perforated" style soffit under the eaves, and it's clear (you can see light spilling out from the attic area when you're outside at night. PAToyota, you're dead-on with the claim "...some builders forget..." The crew that did our place did pretty good on the house, but really cheapened things up on the garage and landscaping prep (thin top soil, etc...).

So my soffits are clear, but as skinny as the ridge vent is, it just doesn't seem up to the task of letting enough air pass through.

I suppose I can hang my ceiling and add an electric gable fan later.
