Hi everybody, I am going to put a 30x48x14 pole building on my property and I have everything planned except ventilation. How many vents will be adequate? I plan on running a de-humidifier in the building during the rainy season (I live in Western Wa) so it will be on most of the time. I have rented a pole building before that developed a mold problem because of poor ventilation and don't want that to happen in this building. Thanks

I have two foot over hangs on all four side of my building that are all done with vented soffit. The ridge is also open and acts like a ridge vent. Not sure how well it works as right know the interior is not finished and building is not heated. Those things will happen next spring.
I would say use vented soffits on the side walls only…. not the gable and have a full ridge vent. If you insulate the ceiling make sure you do not block the soffits from allowing air to travel up to the ridge vent. This is a very coming way to vent buildings.
I'm not sure of your construction style but I'm on my second pole building here and I have no problems with moisture or mold. One thing that I believe in is insulated vapor barrier. INSULATION LINK Both of my buildings I have wrapped top and side with the 2" stuff and have no venting or moisture problems unless I leave the big doors open on warm wet spring days. I assume that being just south of you we have similar climate.

Thank you for the replys, guys. I should have mentioned, my building will have no overhang on the roof. I will definitely plan for a full ridge vent that runs the length of the building. As for now I plan to have an insulated roof and no insulated walls. I will eventually insulate the walls when money frees up. Most likely a couple years from now.

Where's the water coming from? Before you pour your slab, be sure that you install a vapor barrier and of course properly grade surface water away from the building. Even though it rains here, a lot, our RH isn't terrible and you won't have mold and moisture problems unless you bring moisture into the building.
The only time I get any type of moisture in my 30x60 uninsulated is when a warm weather system comes in after an extended cold period and I have the bog doors open letting that warm wet air come into contact with the cold slab.

I have a drainage ditch behind where the building will go. It seems to divert the water pretty well. My main concern about insulation/moisture was that in the air. But I will have my dehumidifier going in the shop
ps: I do have a moisture barrier for the slab in the plans for the shop
