First let me say hello to all. This is my first post as a new member of this forum so please be gentle. I am having some ventilation problems in my detatched garage/workshop. I live in the Corpus Christi area so there is 1000% humidity. I built a 16x32 workshop a few months ago. In the back corner, I built in an 8x8 bedroom to sleep in when I work midnight shifts.(First Responder) The bedroom only has a window unit and an entry door. It is insulated. The top(roof) of the room has a loft/storage area above it. A few months ago we had some heavy rain and I wasn't able to use my shop for a few weeks. I went into the room and the two exterior walls were covered in surface mold. I did a Clorox clean and aired it out with a fan for a few days. This weekend I plan on caulking/sealing the room and primering/painting it. I am trying to figure out what the best option to ventilate it will be without causing more problems. I.E. leaking from installing a fan or vent on the exterior walls. I have been researching some vent options but am wondering if I can just make a hole in the door and install a fan or would I really need to bring in air from the exterior. Sorry for the babbling and any and all help would be appreciated.

I am sure I could offer you a simple solution but you neglected to mention your location. A solution for a rural Texas shop would be far different that one in Maine. In my area, (S.E. Pennsylvania) installing a small dehumidifier (or window air conditioner) during the Summer months and a baseboard heater in the winter would probably be the cheapest option. Had I the extra cash I would install a mini split heat pump.

A vent fan won't do much other than blow around moist unconditioned air. I think you need to deal with that.
