Ventilation?

I just bought a new (to me) house built in 1922. It's got a lot of work needing to be done, and being done.

I'll start a new thread as I start work on the garage, but I need to get better ventilation in there. It's got a flat roof, and the walls are brick/cinderblock, and it's partially built into the side of a hill.

It seems to have a perpetual musty smell, and that's something I'm going to need to take care of. What's the best solution for ventilation a flat roof? Can I add vents to the (metal) garage door?

I'm sort of new to this, do I need to add vents in more than one place to get a flow?

I'll start a build thread, though budget reasons will keep my garage FAR more modest than many here. My goal is to have a place to work and store two classic cars.

I would say being its so old theres no vapor barrier under the slab so moisture is coming up through it 1, and the brick walls are also old and probley not painted that well if at all2, Im guessing but you could put in vents in the garage doors but would think if you power washed the inside real well let it dry really good and hit the walls with a good sealer with mold inhibitor mixed in that payed attention to the concrete floor and sealed that with a good paint or epoxy most of your problem s would be gone, if not after that get a small dri-eaze duhimidifer let that run. if your not going to paint or cant paint the rock wall treat it with a microban treatment killls molds and will help or steri fab both work well together, im guessing its the (old) that you smell with moisture activating it. try opening the main door for about an hour walk away if you come back in with the door open with a fresh nose and still smell it , just cutting in vents wont work. good luck pics please:)
