Hey Guys,
I've been lurking here since last fall as I've been planning my garage addition. Here comes the first of my many questions for you all.
I'm expanding my 2 car, 24' x 24' single level into something bigger with an upper level workshop. I'd like to add a Mr. Heater upstairs, and plan for a 2nd Mr. Heater on the lower level sometime in the future.
I thought I'd be venting horizontally until I started reading the code and instructions. Now I'm thinking about vertical and using a common vent pipe.
I'm trying to understand if I can use the same common pipe for both, and is there a max vertical length. Basically can I come from the ground level through my "bonus" room upstairs, hook into the second heater, and then out the roof?
Also, if I'm not installing the lower level immediately, can I still run the vent to it's desired location and cap it off? Ideally, I'll have the two heaters in the same location on each of the levels.
Per the instructions: The unit may be vented vertically as a single appliance or as a common vent with other gas-fired appliances. In common venting situations, vent connectors for other appliances must maintain a 4” (100mm) vertical separation between the vent connectors. Refer to common venting tables in the (American) National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1 or (Canada) CSA B149.1 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code for proper vent size.
Thanks for any advice,
Ken
