Venting a power vented Modine heater

Since I cannot find an installation manual on my Modine heater, I am wondering if I can get some advice on venting it. My plan is to vent it vertically through my roof. I am going to go vertical out of the heater and into my attic 3 feet. I then need to place a 45 degree angle, run another 4 feet and then add another 45 degree angle. It will then go vertical for 3 more feet which will go through the roof and end with a roof cap. I am planning on using 4 inch class b pipe. The heater is power vented and that is where I am unfamiliar. Does this sound like a good install? Do I need a clean out or catch on the vent? I am not planning on putting one in. I am aware of the code dimensions on the roof peak and it will be according to code. Any help is appreciated.

You really need to find the manual or call up Modine and ask.

The manual will tell you what type of vent piping is acceptable. I doubt b-vent can be used. Anything I do in power vent gets done in z-vent or schedule 40 PVC depending on what is called for.

Their is a maximum distance you can run the vent. Usually a 45 will count as 3' of pipe and a 90 as 6' of pipe. It sounds like a short run so you are probably okay but it's better to know now then to have problems with it later.

As far as the routing of the pipe it sounds like their is nothing fundamentally wrong with your routing. Local codes however will dictate whether or not it is acceptable.

Depending on local codes and the rated clearance to combustibles you probably have to use a thimble when penetrating combustibles with the vent line (Sheetrock, attic floor, the roof itself).

No clean outs are necessary. The manual will let you know whether or not you need a condensate drain tee though. I'd say it probably doesn't call for one However if it does and you don't install it it will shorten the life of the heater. You also will need some sort of termination kit. You don't want water going down the vent or birds building a nest in there.

You may be able to use 3" rather then 4" pipe. Some of the smaller ones will allow 3" to be used for shorter runs. Again, Modine would know or the manual would let you know.

Those things have a blower motor on the vent but Im pretty sure that b pipe is correct. Sounds too me like you are doing it correctly.

I agree. He really needs to contact the manufacturer or check the manual before he does anything.
