Venting Mr Heater Big Maxx with Menards B-Vent Kit

Hello,

I'm adding the 50k btu Big Maxx gas heater to my garage, and looking for some help with the venting. I purchased the recommend vertical venting materials on the Menards material list: SKU: 6955534. All Amerivent B-Vent.

I've seen some relevant tutorial videos, but none that go into detail on how the connections are made, connecting to the heater its self, securing vent cap, etc.

Some general questions:
-Which piece could be connected directly to the heater? Can it be the Tee or an elbow to save space?
-How should I secure the vent cap onto the bottom of the Tee.
-Safe ways to keep the 1-inch buffer in attic with blow-in insulation.
-Is foil tape required on connections?

Thanks!

The kit should have instructions

Most are twist lock style connections

I did wrap mine in foil tape

Thanks for the response. Any thoughts on the tee cap? They mention wanting the ability to remove and clean it periodically, but I don't see a good way to secure it if it needs the ability to be removed.

The clean out cap on the T fitting?

Self tapping sheet metal screws? Foil tape? Both?

Sure did. Yes, I have that document. It states this:
"Any unused open end of the Tee or Wye should be closed off with a Tee Cap (TC). Reducing Tees (T) and Wyes (Y) are also available."

But it lacks any specific instructions for how to secure it, or if anything is necessary beyond the friction fit.

I was just hoping for some peer advice, since many of the members here have likely done similar jobs. I haven't used b-vent before, and since the connections don't seem very air-tight I was mainly concerned about avoiding risk of carbon monoxide, etc.

I see plenty of good info in that thread. It should be a good resource for me - thanks.

Somewhere I read about using a T and connecting a condensate drain to the bottom of the T. It's a vague recollection - but something to Google.
That could have some merit since they're found on things like air conditioners, although I've never seen it on a garage heater. Maybe it helps the vent pipes avoid rusting long-term?

Put the cap in place and bend over the outer wall of the B-vent to hold it in place.

How did you connect the B Vent directly to the unit itself? 4 inch b vent seems to be too big for the connection at the heater for vertical venting

I detest the Amerivent product. For anyone looking to do the same type kit, buy either Dura-vent or Selkirk pipe. Both go together & come apart much easier than the AV. AV ***** the big one!

Draft hood connection, very simple
