Not a garage related post but with all of the professionalism and craftsmen on this site I know you can relate.

I work as a Maintenance Supervisor for well known appliance manufacturer, at least that is my job title, the job actually reaches far beyond that, which is not my complaint.

I worked through the Christmas and New Years holiday installing some new equipment. I am not talking nuclear generators or rocket launchers, i'm talking basic, simple conveyors. Should of been a simple two day job.

The vendor that built these conveyors simply needs to give up. We had to basically re work or re design practically every moving component on these conveyors. Then the "technicians" that were sent to help us were useless.

Simple alignment issues, fit of parts and basic design and these guys failed miserably, i have two year apprentices that can do better machining work than this company did. It's a shame.

America wonders why we are in the shape we are in... People need to start taking more pride in craftsmanship or we are doomed.

Ok rant is done:dunno:

Understandable......

I see an eroding of basic skills. It pretty much goes hand in hand with the expectations at our schools.....no one fails....no one left behind.....God forbid that we hurt their feelings....

Everyone wants an Engineer's pay with McDonalds skills......

We need to get back to basics....and training programs that teach not only the trades, but pride and ethics.

While you won't find me much of a fan of unions....I do have tremendous respect and support of those unions the expect and demand the performance from it's members. A IBEW guy that knows the trade and works hard....is money well spent.

Sorry you had to suffer what you did.....hopefully the mgt of the of the supplier will be made aware of the issues.

I call it a Pride of Ownership issue. I am not old enough to have worked in that time but during the WWII era and a little later the workmanship seemed to be at its highest when the country was on its edge.
I am not ragging on all products or workmanship but when you source out most of the work (free trade) for cost purposes you do get what you pay for and eventually it takes its tole where we all pay for it in the end, so I do agree with your rant.
