Recently my wife went to replace my sons cell phone. She also has one with verison and was told by the SOB sales clerk at verison that for the same money she was paying for 2 she could have 3. She quickly signed the contract and got the 3rd phone for me. 3 weeks later we get the bill and the 3rd phone has uped the bill by over 50 bucks a month. I told the wife to take it back and just keep the service for the 2 phones she had,but NO WAY VERISON said to return the phone and end the friggin GD SOB contract it would cost 170 bucks plus the monthly charge for the prior month. Total money throw away because of ther LIER at verison over 230 bucks......SCREW VERISON......and screw contracts. Great way to start XMAS shopping .throwing away over 230 bucks.

ALWAYS read a contract before signing.

Just wait until you want to upgrade your phone with Verizon before your contract period ends. You have to go through hell and back to try and get them to sell you the phone at the upgrade price instead of the normal retail price. I have been a customer for at least 7 years and I still get the run-around every time.

Fortunately, there was a company started in our area to be a Verizon reseller based SOLELY on providing good customer service. They recognized how terrible Verizon was handling it themselves and have been successful with their new venture. We bought our last 2 phones from them and will do so again when the time comes.

Some states, such as MA & PA (not 100% certain on PA) prohibit voice recording unless it is open and agreed to first by both parties, and that agreement also must be on the original recording at the beginning. I knew of the MA law for many years, but only learned about the PA law a while ago. A teen-aged kid was making a video of a police traffic stop in his neighborhood, when a cop came over and asked him what he was doing. He continued recording, and the cop confiscated the camera and arrested him for recording the "conversation" on the video camera. Never heard what the final outcome was, but that is to be expected with the news.

There's a guy who had a problem with Verizon last year in terms of the cost they quoted him for roaming data service.

Verizon could not understand the difference between fractions of a cent and fractions of a dollar. After getting the runaround he finally recorded a conversation he had with a Verizon rep. It's a pretty long conversation, but worth a listen.

Great link to the bad math...This just shows what kind of fools they have working at verison. I dont think the wife will be signing any more contracts without my inspection after the hell Ive raised....Its not the money as much as the way it was lost.

The biggest trouble is ( as been said before ) rhe WRITTEN CONTRACT is what you are obligated to, not what he SAID.

I'd be willing to bet the Commonwealth is one of the biggest violators of this law with patrol car mounted video units that have officer unfriendly miked up.

For the most part I've had a very good relationship with Verizon for a lot of years. The thing I have found out is to try to keep the one on one with the retail store to a minimum. I always clear everyting with the corporate guys before I head over to a Verizon outlet for anything. The corporate guys have always been very accomodating to me. I have four phones with them and my bill is right around $100 month. My last run in with the store guys was a real trip. My dog ate my phone. He chomped on it and the LCD display was unreadable, the phone still worked though. Because it was short notice I went in to the store and declared "the dog ate my phone, I need a new one". I was two weeks from the earliest date of contract renewal and they would't waive the requirement and give me a new free phone. I called the manager over and told her "I'm getting a new phone today, it'll either be a Verizon or another company, but I'm getting a new phone today. She says sorry no can do. I called the corporate office, told them my problem and they apoligised and put a note in my file to authorize a new phone on demand. Went back to the store and picked my my new Razor. I'd recommed you guys call the corporate office and tell them the store guys mislead you and ask them what they can do about it.

I hope I don't offend any cell phone people here, but it has been my experience that they are all liars. I handle a large number of cell phones for the school where I work, and when I get a new contract I require a plain language contract or contract addendum explaining everything so I can understand it, signed by an authorized representative. I also require a specific person with a phone number and email address so I can make a direct call. No prompts, switch offs, run arounds. I put in the contract that I have the right to free early termination if I am denied direct access to a specific person who has the authority to make decisions. I wish I had that kind of power when negotiating a personal contract for a phone or two.

I have net10 and have been pleased with the service. The one time I had to call the cust. service department, they handled my problem quickly. My minutes did not update, they took care of it.

Cost is ~15 per month for 150 minutes. I hate talking on the phone, so the 150 is more than I require, but the minimum they sell.

No contracts.

Net 10 sounds like a great deal. Just opened the friggin bill from Verison,bill is 101 bucks for 2 phones with a 2 year contract. One is for the kid and he goes to school. the other is for the wife who often goes a couple of days without using it........then the wife asks me WHY our checking account stays low all the time.

Would you like white or red wine............. Stop whining about it and if you are not happy about the 2 year contract, then cancel it and pay the penalty. I am certain that the penalty is a lot less than shelling out $101 every month for the next 24 months. When life hands you a lemon, learn to squeeze it and make lemonade. I for one am getting tired of all the whining that you have been doing about everything from someone running into your house, to cell phone contracts. Get over it.......

Verizon has been great and even credited us for the month our son was born and in the NICU since we had never used 900 minutes before in the 4 years we had had our phone plans. I just added dad for the extra $10 a month.

I use Cingular (okay AT&T. Whatever)... and I've been very happy.

But I've NEVER had a cellphone contract. Buy the phone on eBay (Careful! Pick a seller with 10,000 positive feedbacks for this one...) and walk into the store to get it activated. Boom. Done. Cancel whenever you want.

Buying the phone through the company is like buying anything else on credit. It costs more to buy the phone up-front, but you save a lot of money & hassle in the long run.

When I got a phone for us I went with Cricket. Since we stay in the call area most of the time the idea of one set fee to me was the only way to go. If we do travel we can get long distance for out of area. Seen too many people get the contract and not be happy but stay because it costs so much to cancel.

I have Nexthell for work I pay around $150.00 a month but I have unlimited everything . I can call china and talk till the lead paint falls off my phone and its still $150.00 a month . On the other hand my other half and all 3 children have Cricket phones and the bill for all 4 is less than $200.00 a month every month . I wish sometimes Cricket had a larger coverage area I would switch myself but I cover an area bigger than they do would be nice to pay $100.00 less a month though .I also hate the danged walkie talkie thing I have blue tooth for a reason I dont want to hold the phone while I am trying to get something else done.

Contracts do one thing. They give someone (who may be a lier ) a legal way to ripp you off and if you dont like it they can ruin your credit. I wonder how many millions of young people who didnt pay the cell phone bill are in line to pay alot more when they buy a house now because of the black mark on their credit. OH well , they dont care,,,,,,,,not now but they will later,and all because you HAD TO SIGN A FRIGGIN CONTRACT to to be able to use a phone,,,,,,,,,sorta stupid is what I think

Verizon has been good to me.

Sprint on the other hand, charged me for 3 months after I switched (the same phone number) to verizon, with a bill with made up phone calls on it, then reported me to collections for it. The state attorney general found it interesting they were charging me for 3 months under a verizon phone number.

They also told me there was no way they could give me a discount the day before I went to verizon. When I went to Verizon the next day, they were rude to the manager there, and REFUSED to transfer the phone number until they could talk to me. At that point, the SAME manager I talked to the day before miraculously decided to give me a 25% discount. i told the lying so-and-so where she could put her phone service.

Phones are a huge monopoly. Razr's were like 300$ when they came out, I got this one for FREE with my 2 year plan about a year ago, and I can get either 100$ credit in a month or so towards a new phone.

Its a rip, but whatcha gunna do?

I know this an old thread, but I want to chime in anyways.

Verizon, and most other cellular providers typically provide a 14-30 day returns window where you can cancel a new contract without having to pay a fee.

Did you not read the contract your wife signed? You shouldn't wait until after your bill comes to know how much it is you're going to have to pay. You can even check your service contract amount on the phone itself, for free, or online which is a bit easier. I renewed a week ago, and they text messaged me and emailed me that details of my renewal were now available online for my viewing.
