Hello everyone. I just closed on my first real home and I'm excited that it has a small attached garage. My wife and I sold our condo that had only an open car port and upgraded to this little beauty!

We are still in the unpacking and moving chaos but I've been a creeping on this forum for a while getting ideas for my garage. I'll start by giving you a little background on myself. My father is a Ford man. He has a 1934 Ford tudor that he has had since the age of 14 (now 65) as well as a few other gems. He built a nice 28x32 shop to tinker in when i was young. Its heated and has a full second story for storing parts and such. A while back he found a deal on a 2 post lift and that has been nice. I worked at a high end body shop while i was going to college and got a lot of body work experience on top of the mechanical stuff i learned from my father. I went a bit left of center with my interests in cars though. While i love the old Fords and drive them as much as possible i really love European stuff. I've had several VW's and Audi's. I'm lucky to have my parents house and garage to use but i'm excited to get mine set up to have a project going at my home instead of having to drive somewhere to work on something. I'm also excited to have some sense of organization in my garage as well. I really like what some of you have done with your shops. I'ts going to be a slow moving battle for me but i'll try to update as i get things accomplished. Here is a pic from the mls of the inside of the garage and another how it sits with one of my cars inside among a big mess:

Welcome! We're in the same boat! Except my fathers car is a '34 five window coupe. I finally moved into my first house with my first "my own space" I'm about a year ahead of you and am setting up my slightly smaller 19 x 19 to build a '36 fordor sedan. I didn't take the "European detour" you have, but like you I'm excited to have my own place and not have to travel to my parents I order to get stuff done.
Good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing how you do your garage.

A couple of things though.
1.make sure you stop by the intro thread and do a proper intro, it's the right thing to do and helps start things on the right foot.
2. Fill out the info in your profile. Not everyone will catch the Vermont in the title. Knowing where you are helps answer some questions and helps with suggestions, like "depending on where you are, I'd put insulation up" turns into, "in Vermont, I'd definitely put up insulation".
I'd run any extra electric outlets before you do that and drywall

Welcome!
T

Check out my "build/rehab" thread.

Where is the intro thread? I don't see one. I'm still in the process of using the garage as a staging area for the stuff we bring to the house. My 911 was in a storage unit and is in a part done kind of state so i needed to get out of the unit to save money and get the car to a safe dry place. Lucky for me its been in the negative double digits for the last couple of weeks so the roads were dry and the car didn't get sprayed with salt juice. I'll unfortunately be leaving a couple of cars at my parents house as i really don't have room for them at my new place :(

Congrats on the new house with garage !! Beautiful property.

Recommend you jump on rough lighting plan and get that completed so you can close in the ceiling. Having all that exposed is great fire risk to the entire house if anything in garage caught fire. Ceiling of garage NEEDS sheetrock as your first order of business. Same applies to shared wall to house, it needs 5/8" sheetrock for a firebreak. This is minimum code around here. While you're finishing out garage ceiling, put in attic ladder and a light up there.

Keep pics coming and good luck moving in. What are your plans for rough electrical in garage, as most typically only give you couple outlets !! ;)

Intro done! I'm planning on adding more more lighting and outlets. I may put a sub panel in as well because i would like to have a welder in the garage. I need to get that started as soon as we are finished moving stuff. Next will be to insulate the space and close the walls off. I'm also going to epoxy coat the floor. I want to use the space in the truss area as storage but they are pretty wimpy looking. I might do some beefing so that i feel ok walking around up there. All of this while i maintain our daily driver Audi's and get some project stuff done...

I've been really busy lately. Still working on getting all moved in to the new place etc. I managed to start getting some insulation in the walls of the garage. I bought some more Romex and boxes to add a few more electrical outlets around as well as some more lighting.

I've also been battling with winter and the longer commute trying to kill my daily driver. I had a massive vibration on my daily driver Audi. Pulled the tires off to look at the control arms and found this.. I'm not even worried about the steel belts showing.. look at that egg!

Now that the weather is getting nicer i'm finally back to working on my garage. The biggest problem with moving in the winter does not help as i have collected a ton of stuff that is in the way for things like this. I managed to get the floor epoxy coated. It came out pretty good and looks a lot better than the junky concrete.

I used Rustolium brand from Lowes. It came in two gallon cans (color) and 2 quart cans (hardener). It was simple to mix and apply. I used a paint roller to spread it around and sprinkled the flexs of color on as i went. I also did half a few days ago, then moved everything to that side to do the other. It seems to have blended together nice where the seam is in the middle.

Hey all! Still working on my garage. I'm installing more 120v receptacles and some more lighting. I've been really busy at work (worked sat and sun this week!) but plugging along slowly. I spent more time than I should have on my VW Rabbit this summer and not enough time on the garage. Just wanted to post a pic and give an update.

Lol! I put the cover over the 911 when I was spraying the nose of the rabbit. I don't want to be taking any steps backwards on the 911. It's taking long enough as it is 😳

I've got a couple more lights to hang and I'm hoping to get some plywood screwd to the ceiling before it gets any colder.
