They claim you save more by the diy rather than renting equipment an labor for a stick built...


3500 for the frame (that i can do without a crew)

1000 for siding

2000 for roof (rough?????)

1000 for doors

2000 pad (????again rough)

Seems like an ok deal for a 24x24 on a budget

I just played around with their design program.

24x30x12 is $8K with roof, siding, window opening, etc.

Looks like something I would build over traditional stick framing. Could have it built much faster.

I played with their design tool just for fun. For exact dimensions as the pole barn I had built, they were over 50% more on cost for just their kit delivered compared to what I paid for the pole barn installed.

Not an apples to apples comparison (wood vs steel) but gives you an idea.


The only equipment needed to build the pole barn was a chair, a cooler, and frosty beverages.:D

One thing I'll mention that I see on their website. They built a pad that is bigger than the garage so there is a concrete edge around the garage. There is no way I would do that. To me, I don't care how much sealer you put under that metal tube, it's going to let water in eventually. Whether you live in heavy rain area or have snow, I'd pass on that design.

+1 to not have siding all the way down to ground anyway.

I'd see about "hybrid" versatube with couple rows of concrete block wall with a sill plate, then attach versatube metal structure onto that. With proper planning, the J bolts into concrete would tie everything all together.

It's way too easy for critters to attempt entry into building . . . plus eternal problem of water intrusion . . . that I'll always go for stub wall of concrete.

This is how my grandpa did his building. I don't believe it was versatube brand, but one of similar structure. He paid someone to put it up, but his kit didn't have ends, so he built those himself using wood.

Yes, just click on EDIT for your post above. You can add up to 7 PIC's to each post. After EDIT, then Go Advanced, scroll down to Manage Attachments, then Browse and link up to 7 PIC's in the boxes, then Upload, Close this window, and finally Submit to save those changes.
