On a normal break-over door, the more it is open the less weight there is on the spring. That’s not going to happen with the vertical door. As the coiled spring uncoils when the door is lifted … will it have enough force to keep the door up? Have you considered a roll-up door?

sure, it's do able. I've seen that set up before somewhere . let the door company know that's what you want & they'll be able to do it, or not.
it's just the spring geometry really

Roll ups ****. They rattle. Never again.

We've got one panel door that's 12' high and 10' wide. On a chain sprocket. Insulated. It's probably 14' of track at least. Works fine. Depending on the weight of the door, you may need a higher hp opener, that's all. I've seen some really tall panel doors.
