I have been doing a lot of reading on how to heat my garage. I have been using a torpedo heater but I want something more permanent. I am tired of running out of kerosene not to mention the noise and smell.i can easily get natural gas to the garage or a dedicated 220v circuit.

I planned to buy a 30,000 btu ventless heater but after reading more, I am a little worried about the moisture problems. I don't plan to keep it heated all the time just when I am working out there. I also don't want to spend too much but want to make the right decision. Any ideas? A good gas heater or electric or ???? Please help!!! lol

Btw this a small 2 car that is approx 20x20 with a 8' ceiling attached to the house and fully insulated.

Electric is easy to install and costs less. Electric will kill you long term on operating costs compared to natural gas.

Look for a wall furnace. They don't take up much room, are easy to install because they vent directly through an outside wall.

Take your electric rate and gas rate and plug them into an online calculator (one that factors in efficiency) and see what makes more sense. A gas heater will be more cost upfront I would guess, but some places have great natural gas rates. In my case propane is actually more expensive even though we have high electric rates here because I don't use propane for anything else so I'm paying 3.65 when others are paying like $2. Another factor is electric is truly 100% efficient while a natural gas heater with 80% efficiency is usually actually less because it's also sucking in cold air to your space for combustion (unless it has it's own combustion air supply).

You are right by skipping over a ventless, just not a good idea.

I have a 30,000 BTU ventless heater, natural gas, hung on my wall in my 24x24 attached garage. Only use it while I'm in the garage. Works great had it for several years now no problem. No condensation / moisture problem for me as I do not leave it on all the time...
