When you put a VFD on a lathe you have to use the VFD as the control right?

but the emergency shut off should be wired in also. Anything else I should be aware of?

I agree do not connect any switches between the VFD and the motor.

But if you like the factory controls often you can use them as inputs to the VFD so the original start button will tell the VFD to start the motor.

Be aware that when you tell the VFD to shut off (e.g., turn off power to the VFD) the VFD stays powered up for a little while. You should use the stop function on the VFD to stop the lathe.
