I was given this vice. It has been through a fire and then left outdoors in the weather. My questions are, is this vice restorable to functioning condition and is it worth the effort to restore it?

-If you can bring it back to "serviceable condition" I would, especially if you don't have a vise. Having one more working vise is a good thing. Make it a working vise and if it breaks then toss it. As for full restoration, I wouldn't try to restore a vise made in India to showroom quality.

I wouldn't waste time cleaning it up much but I'm with Roninb4 in making it useable. I'd throw it in a bucket of used oil then smack it with a hammer until the jaw moves and it can clamp but thats it for a made in India vise.

Drop it in a tank of simple green for a week and then wire brush a little along the way. Apply Paint and a set of jaws. Away you go for a couple of decades.
