Does anybody here have the capability to fabricate some vice jaws for me? I have the dimensions and some money.
I need the materials and obviously the machining. I checked locally and nobody wants to tackle it. If you can help me shoot me a message, thanks!

NO problem, how much money do you have?

Seriously though what exactly do you want? Hardened serrated jaws, steel unhardened smooth jaws, makes a lot of difference in price and who can do it. I can machine you some jaws but I don't do hardening. Do you have the existing jaws to copy? NO offence but some peoples drawings aren't that good.

If it is nothing special, just cut some from mild steel bar and cut the serrations with a hacksaw. In a home shop environment, they'll probably out last you.

SN: can you post up a few pics of your vise or at least the maker and model # and size of jaws so we can maybe help get you a good answer?

if your original jaws are in good shape and just smooth you can make a cheap pair of copper or aluminum jaw covers or buy them.

or ??

This is a personal preference but I ditched all of the serrated hard jaws from every bench vise I own. Stored probably until the next generation scraps them out. Replaced by aluminum, brass or copper soft jaws.

My reason is that I can only think of a select few items that I want to put in the vise on which I am OK accepting the "bite marks". Lumpy old castings or flame-cut steel come to mind and those are uncommon.

The rest of items I want a solid grip and want it to leave with an undamaged surface. The soft jaws do all of that perfectly.

I agree. I made a set of aluminum jaws as everytime I went to use my vise I was putting soft jaws of some sort on them. I guess it all depends on what you mainly work on.

Ideally one would have at least one vise set up with soft jaws.

Everyone has different needs. I find most of the stuff I do requires the serrations for gripping.

TARB: I actually have a box with a few of those thick copper busbars in it that I bought with a bunch of stuff when the contractor was selling off his old cell tower biz. good idea!!
