Vice picture...what is missing?

Can someone tell me what is missing from this Craftsman vice? When you loosen the handle, the jaws do not move. I feel like there should be something on the screw, maybe held in place with a snap ring.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

John,
If I'm not mistaken, there's an E-clip that holds the spindle in the dynamic jaw body. It would be placed in a groove next to the threads. A snap ring can be used as well.

Here's a picture of what's on my 5-1/2" version of that vise.
It's a strong spring (to stop backlash), a washer, and then an E-clip.
The clip would go in that first groove just before the threads.

Check SearsPartsDirect.com to see if the parts are still available. If not, the collar should get it working again. You should be able to find one in the parts bins of a good hardware store.

Thank you Jake. I found the e-clip in my parts bin. Now I just have to find the spring and washer.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to help me. :)
