New member and first time poster here. I have recently purchased a Parker 104 and 974. The 974 is one I would like to restore and have been reviewing some of the threads especially the vice restoration ones. That being said, is there a thread that simplifies, highlights the standard process, methods involved in a restoration of this sort and the tools, products commonly used to achieve such. I'm not looking to repair the vise in any measurable degree, mainly remove the years of rust, paint, buildup and polish, paint, refinish the unit. Any assistance is appreciated .

Hi Tomthumb, good to see you here!

I have learned that experience is a big part of the package when it comes to vise restoration. It seems every vise I do is "better" than the last one, usually because I have become just a bit "smarter".

Post up pics of the vise if you can. It is important to evaluate what you have to work with. It doesn't make sense to "over restore" a really beat up vise, unless it has sentimental value. So I always start with a good brush down by hand with a wire brush, to remove as much of the dirt and crude as possible. Then I can see what I have.

There are many different techniques that can be used. Feel free to ask questions as there are many smart and experienced people on this Forum.

Nothing complicated use your mobile and take shots at every point while removing and reassemble it back what you need for restoration is a wire brush and some cleaning liquid and oil the square threads don't use grease because metal parts sticks to grease and little painting if required.
