I want to do a couple videos and haven't done any since the old Hi-8 days. Is a Go Pro sufficient or should I go another direction.

Kind of depends on your expectations and what you're doing. Go Pros shoot pretty awesome HD video, so for most people it'd be great. I would watch some Go Pro videos on YouTube and see what you think.

I have a GoPro and like it, but you need to know its restrictions. No zooming and unless you turn on Wifi and connect it to a phone with the app you will not see what you are aiming it at (unless you buy the screen that connects in the back).

Buy the gopro 4 silver. It has a screen on the back.

Bought one a couple months ago. Have been using it to make timelapse videos for work (industrial painting). The only drawback is that they are a super wide angle lense. You gotta put it pretty close to whatever your shooting.... Or else since the resolution is so good anyway, you can put it further back and then just use the zoom in the video editor

I have an older GoPro that I would use to take video of my car running at the track. It worked great with only two issues.

First, it was sometimes hard to adjust without having a screen on the back for a view finder. I would use a suction cup mount to mount it to an outside window and you can't always get your face down to get a view through the eye piece. The newer ones with the screen on the back solved this issue.

Second, with the camera installed into the weather proof case that I have (I don't know how else you would use it since all of the mounting points are on this case) it severely muffled the volume. I think this has also been addressed with the newer cameras.

I tend to use my Canon DLSR or my hand held HD video camera for anything not involving mounting to a car.

Just my .02
