A cargo of 4 Vidmar cabinets on the trailer and a long-bed full of drawers as of this AM. I brought them home last night.
I'd never heard of Lista or Vidmar before I joined this site, but was intrigued by what I read. I bid on a set of 9 drawer Listas at a local military base (through Government Liquidators), but didn't get them. I put a WTB in the local CL, nothing; but then they started popping up. I located three 9 drawers that looked attractive, but the seller was a flake so I blew them off. Visited a couple of sellers, but the cabinets were too physically battered to be of interest to me; the final group, which I bought, are cosmetically challenged but are structurally sound and square. They will refinish nicely. In the end, I sank a little north of $2K into 4 Vidmars and a Lista 6 drawer workbench with a maple top. In the end, it comes out to about $50 a drawer (I'm not sure how to count cabinet shelves), which according to advice I got here is a fair price.
A few observations: do not buy without inspecting. These things are heavy beyond belief and a lot of well-intentioned folk beat the hell out of them by moving/transporting them incorrectly. I looked at two "new" units (still in wrap), that had been so badly damaged in shipping that they were effectively scrap. Unfortunately this latter fact somehow eluded the seller, who kept referring to their retail cost. Check the working of each drawer. On another example two of bottom drawers did not fully close. Upon closer inspection, they'd obviously been damaged somehow, probably while outside the case (dropped on a corner). This defect was not visible in the photos the seller provided and required that I get down on one knee fully to see what was going on.
In short, they periodically show up around here (as they may in your region) but that doesn't mean you want to take home what's advertised. As to govt auctions, caveat emptor. I would not now bid without photographs taken specifically at my request or physical inspection. The first ain't never going to happen in an on-line govt auction, and the second simply may not be feasible.
All this said, these things are incredible. Even at the price I paid, it would be impossible to come close to duplicating this amount of storage and quality of storage space.
Good luck!
