Made in USA and clearly old, but no idea of the maker. Any ideas? Picked it up cheap today. Might try my hand at wire whipping the handle.

Thanks, gang! You nailed (hammered?) it!

I've epoxied some of the minor splits in the handle and will try wire whipping tomorrow. Time to learn a new skill. :)

It has a couple of splits starting. I epoxied them overnight and will wire whip today. Main problem area is the 2.5" below the head.

Here's my first attempt ar wire whipping. If I had to do it again, I'd use smaller diameter wire so I could wrap it tighter.

Pro tip: don't search for "wire whipping videos." You've been warned.
