I'm hoping to see if anyone can help on this old machine. I got a Sun Dist machine in a dismantled state and have been reassembling it. Everything appears to be there and function mechanically the way it should, The wiring was a bit more difficult. I have managed to solder, repair and route the way it goes I think except for a large red wire that I first thought was a ground to the chassis. It originates at the transformer thru a I think a large Diode?. If anyone can I.D it thru the photos or Have A diagram or clear schematic that would help.

I picked up a Sun 404 last summer and spent some time getting it to flash brighter again. In my case, it needed new capacitors, since they were almost fifty years old. There is a guy in Michigan who sells a kit, with all the capacitors, as well as a few diodes, to bypass the vacuum tube. There was also one little resistor in the kit for my machine, which was good, because mine was burnt. It flashes like it should now.

The guts of your machine look a little different than mine. I just dug through my photos, from when I was working on it, but this is the only one that shows a big red wire. Unfortunately, I cannot see where it goes. I can take a look inside tomorrow, if you think that they are similar enough that it would be helpful information.

Okay, I went up and stuck the camera in and took a couple shots in the dark. Sorry for the quality, but hopefully this will help. My first post on the GJ was about my Sun machine. Now I am hooked on this vintage tool forum. Tom

I have a Sun Distributor machine that appears to be very similar to yours. It was stored in a shed with a leaky roof and suffered some water damage before it came to me. I disassembled it about 15 years ago and rebuilt the mechanical part but shelved the project and reclassified it as a "retirement" project. I found a build date stamped in mine from the late 1950's. Somewhere I have a crude sketch of the wiring (I am not an electrical person) as it was when I took it apart. Sometime after I got it I came across some poor photocopies of some pages from a manual for a 1960's era machine. This is the wiring diagram of the "center" section that your photos show. It may help, or may not, but it's worth posting.
