Have this yellow old beast, have read that maybe Miller bought them later. Anyway I don’t have leads and need to make some. Since it’s only rated at 180 amps and I don’t plan to weld anything thick, what’s the thinnest cable I can get by with at short distance, say twelve feet max. Need to weld 1/4” steel tabs on 1/4” pipe. I will take out a socket from the machine if I need to so we can determine what kind of tips or inserts I need. I like old machines and now I need this one. I intend to power it with a generator . Any reason this won’t work?...i can see the gears turning-is this guy nuts?[emoji849]

Old-school transformer stick welders typically need a LOT more generator power to run than you might think.

Example : Lincoln flat-out says that you need at LEAST a 15kW generator to run an AC225 (aka tombstone ) welder.

That’s been bugging me, currently only have 7500 available, couple of gasoline engine-powered vintage machines that I was trying to get the deal fell through. Many thanks to all for the help and information. I’m gonna go see about a big old generator on a trailer with a Wisconsin THD engine. Hoping it wasn’t set up to run at 3600-that’s too fast and too thirsty for fuel... praying it runs at 1800 rpm. Thanks again, and wish me luck!
