I just got a NOS AC motor that was never used, has no wiring diagram and the Universal Electric Company went out of business years ago. It is a 4 lead motor with one black, one blue, one red and one white wire. The plate is marked VOLTS 115, CYCLES 60, Amps. 1.0, SER. 12V39067, RPMS 900. I think it may be a shaded pole motor but not sure. Does anyone know what type motor it is, what does SER. 12V39067 mean and how to connect a 115v three prong cable to it?

Thanks,
henrylr

It could be a permanent split capacitor motor. Google for some wiring diagrams and examples. Measure resistance between all leads to figure out the windings.

SER might be serial number. Model looks like 63K002

The wiring diagram below lists unused leads to be open. The photo of the motor shows the unused leads connected to each other. So I don't know if the connected leads in the motor photo are considered open. What do I do with the unused wires on my motor?

Thanks,

If it is like the GE motor on my lathe (which I just rewired), the red and blue are for a reversing motor, using a drum switch.

It's probably some sort of fan motor on a squirrel cage or some sort of ceiling fan... giving the RPM is only 900 and open frame-ish. I would agree with post #2 it's just a multi tap AC motor that give different speed.. looks like 3 speed.

all you have to do is test it and verify the ohms with any decent ohm meter would do..? you have a lead diagram.

start with the white

white + black --> ohm
white + Blue --> ohm
White + Red --> ohm

The one with the highest ohm give you the max speed, and the one with lowest gives least...

Not sure if there are any standard to this. I have a 4 speed fan motor in front of me color wire is a bit different... and it has a capacitor.

Thanks for all the replies but if I connect to the high speed lead are the unused leads connected to each other or not?t

Just cap them, DO NOT CONNECT them to ANYTHING. ?

or go salvage or buy a 3 speed selector switch.

The controller board I have from my broken fan is nothing more than a controller controlling bunch of relays for different speed with remote. YMMV

Ohm test first just to make sure..

Thanks to all for replies and dogdog thanks for the "just cap them" answer. I checked the ohm values and white>black is 36, white>blue is 49 and white>red is 60. It runs great.

they (Blue, black) are energized when you power white and red. so cap them individually or tape them up really good individually if you are not using them. Looks like a good fan motor for projects.

I think you might have been searching for the wrong string. if Unsure, maybe call them up. I have the worse of luck with people over the phone... you might be a better social engineer.

if you search 63K002 you'll find a reference to D369 replacement motor that looks exactly like yours. Pretty sure you can spend a little time finding a reference.
