Neat? Yea I guess, not sure how useful it would be these days. I think they run on Calcium carbide, like the old lamps and toy cannons. IMHO more of a museum piece than something one would have at their house. :dunno:

Wonder how big it is. I would love to see it cleaned up. As noted, not sure how useful it would be but for the right price could be fun to play with and then stick in an empty corner to look cool. That is if you had an empty corner. Won't find any around here.

There's a reason those are not used any more. Acetylene under any pressure is extremely dangerous - tanks are filled with acetone and a filler material to make it stable.

its not dangerous just flammable

they use acetone to increase the amount of acetylene in a tank 1 cuft of acetone will absorb ~250 cuft of acetylene:thumbup:

acetylene tanks have a fusible plug in the bottom to release the contents in case of fire

Thanks for the acetone info, never knew that. I did know they have a lead plug in the bottom...
