Got a Blackhawk floor jack today. This thing is "huge" and heavy. It is about 50" long, 8" high (from ground to the top of the body when it was flattened) and can lift to 24" high. It is in great condition (was repainted from red to blue). Other than the light, everything else works great (slight oil leak from the reservoir when it is tilted to its side, not sure it is normal).

I did some searches here, it looks like Blackhawk S4. Could someone confirm it?

Yep, that's an S4. Should weigh around 200 lbs.

Did you pay a lot for it? What are your plans for it?

Did not pay too much, though I did have to drive 2 hours to pick it up... Since everything seems to work fine, I think I am just clean up the grease zerk fittings and grease it up and start to use it as is.

Even the oh-so fragile handle isn't broken, and the light switch is in place.

The smurf blue has got to go, though.

The light switch is in place but doesn't seem to turn at all, the wire is cut at the bottom.

I took the front wheel off and will clean up and re-grease the "bearing"... I don't think I am going to restore it right away since everything is working. Though, I do have to decide what color to go with everytime I clean up a parts (eg. wheels). Shall I go with the original red color?

Very nice. Reminds me of last summer, I drove an hour to pick up a non working blackhawk SJ-3 and was as happy as you are now! Congrats

That's a nice looking S-4, Congrats!!

Here are a couple of links to use as reference, if you want to paint it back to its original color scheme:

Dang, Just can't keep any secret from you guys! :lol_hitti $100 is what I paid.

Oh I would so gladly pay $100 for that jack!!!
I have a set of tall jack stands, and I really need a tall jack, and I've been looking for a Blackhawk to restore and use.

I am such a late comer that I suppose everyone is long gone here, but I am restoring my old S4 as well. I have this strange fascination about these Black Hawk jacks and am pleased to see that I am not alone.

Would you WXM (or anyone) be willing to share a couple photos of the switch mechanism in the handle. I have never seen one and all the photos that I have seen never show it... I have the light and the negative side of the battery pack, but nothing else in the handle...

Much appreciated.

This might be the closest picture that I have in hand. It stands out enough, but you will get an idea.

I am just curious, is the knob is to lower the jack and that is a key switch for the light? I think those are cool as all #ELL but i will not likely ever own one. I don't remember ever seeing one and I have become very tight on space. [understatement of the millenia, And YES I do want one] Harry

The switch is very rudimentary from what I've seen. I intend to someday make a switch for mine. It was missing when I bought my S4. The lens is also missing, and one day I plan to cast a new one.

My dad just gave me this S4 this weekend and I'm stoked. I never really paid any attention to it when I was a kid but I've come to appreciate these art-deco era tools over the years. It works great other than the light. I also came across this parts breakdown and thought it might be handy for others out there.
