Older post vises tend to be made of wrought iron as well.It's a misnomer to call these a "blacksmith vise". No self-respecting blacksmith would have been caught dead owning one. Both an anvil and a vise, but in reality it does neither function particularly well, especially since it's made of brittle cast iron. Blacksmiths much preferred the traditional "post vise" (aka "leg vise") along with a quality wrought iron anvil. These anvil vises were marketed to the masses as a "do all" type of device. I'd avoid them like the plague.![]()

Here's the recent post where someone had one of these that he inherited from his great grandfather. Apparently complete with all the bits and pieces including drilling and grinding wheel attachments. Yeah, definitely some cool history going on with that piece.this one is cool as heck
