Besides the price that's quite an interesting piece. If it was closer to $10 and not 3 hours away I'd buy it just for its looks!

Here's a pic if anyone is interested. I think this is a fairly typical arrangement with these blacksmith vises?

IMHO. It's a novelty, no self respecting blacksmith would be caught dead using one. :lol_hitti

Let the flaming begin.

Now that one's cool because of all the gears and such^^^
Plus it looks like the face of the anvil may be forged, not cast like the others posted in this thread.

Someone posted a few weeks ago who had one of those "handy workers" that was originally his grandfathers. As well as being a vise and anvil it also has attachments to make it a grinder and drill press. Very cool. :)

It's a misnomer to call these a "blacksmith vise". No self-respecting blacksmith would have been caught dead owning one. Both an anvil and a vise, but in reality it does neither function particularly well, especially since it's made of brittle cast iron. Blacksmiths much preferred the traditional "post vise" (aka "leg vise") along with a quality wrought iron anvil. These anvil vises were marketed to the masses as a "do all" type of device. I'd avoid them like the plague. ;)
Older post vises tend to be made of wrought iron as well.
