Picked this up last week; it came from an estate sale. Not sure, but I'm guessing the set was made in the 50's or 60's. After a bit of research, it appears to have been made by the L.O. Beard Company, Lancaster, PA. Apparently at some point they were acquired by K-D Tools, also from Lancaster, PA. I guess the bushing tools are now marketed under the “Gearwrench” brand.

These tool sets were frequently used back in the day when mechanics routinely replaced bushings as part of the re-build process for starters, generators or water pumps. That process has been replaced by just installing new or commercially rebuilt parts. Although the set is still useful, I’ll probably just keep it as a bit of garage art.

Yup use bushing tools all the time. Mostly for king pin bushings. But sometimes on automatic transmission bushings and what not. And that company was about 1 1/2 hours from me. Kd did buy them up way back in the day. One of the old timers at work has the same set.

That set looks the same as my blue point set I bought from a old tractor mechanic.

I acquired a couple of these bushing driver sets a while back and I've never found a use for them. Are they just for rebuilding things where a shaft goes through a brass bushing? I guess I don't really rebuild many things so never ran into a use.

Then, those of us who do use them regularly.

I keep one set in the engine shop for starter/alternator/generator/transmission/machine bushings and another in the home shop for electric motors and general use.

I had a KD set, but got a good deal on an older Snap on. I don't use it much any more.

Looks exactly the same as my very old snap on set. I use it often for dirt bike lower end/transmission bearings No pic handy. Nice find

I saw an older Bluepoint set online, and it looked the same as the L.O. Beard set that I bought; perhaps Beard produced them under contract for Bluepoint (and others) as well.
