I know that's confusing title, but I'm trying to learn about and eventually acquire a pair of these vintage cast iron beauties, they are about 30" tall. I'm not sure what the official name is, but the intent is they help prevent damaging the corners surrounding an a garage door. If anyone knows a current manufacturer of these, Id like to hear about it, also what the proper name is for these things. I'm calling them vintage cast iron door opening guards, I see them on fire stations, gas stations and other buildings from the 30's - 40's with garage doors for motor vehicles. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

They were phased out in the '50' s in favor of pipe bollards. They looked cool but were not very effective as cars got larger. They worked to deflect model T's and A's. I haven't seen any in years. I'm not sure where you would find more.

Until you can locate another of these, would you consider making a simple fiberglass mold off the original and use it to pour concrete? Steel reinforced high strength concrete is very durable, I once ran across some I couldn't drill with a carbide masonry bit.
