I bought this at an auction last year. I don't have a huge shop and don't need to heat it all the time or get it super toasty, but it was neat and I brought it home to decide whether to use it or not. I was thinking if there might be a time to work all day, use the torpedo heater to get the shop warm and this to maybe maintain.

Anyone know the vintage of this thing? Is it worthwhile to go through it to use???

And I don't have natural gas on our property, so it would have to be propane. So I would need to convert the unit, if possible too.

Have a professional HVAC tech check the heat exchanger for cracks, and he will be able to give you a price for a conversion kit for it, some kits are very expensive and others are really cheap, depends on what parts need to be changed. Don't know the vintage on it but its definatley old. Try Colmans website they might even be able to send you manuals for it

>> Quoted good advice.

I'm all for using something that you have, or get cheap, or given to you, or whatever. It's not being cheap, it's being smart.
BUT
I'd be leery of using something that has fire in it inside of a building without fully knowing that it is completly in proper condition.

You're doing right by asking here for some good opinions/advice. But I can't help other than to say- Be Safe. Like you are.
