I am trying to rebuild an old Sears Compressor, made by Campbell Hausfeld. I am unsure if I need to grease the needle bearings that support the crankshaft.
I usually go by grease bearings and oil bushings, but this has me stumped.
The needle bearings reside in the lower pump housing that is splash lubricated. Are these compressors designed so the oil will lubricate them? They seem to sit up quite a bit higher than oil level, and I question whether they will get adequate lubrication from the splashed oil alone.
I did not notice any grease when I took it apart but I figure it could have washed out over time.
I know there have been a few people on here who have rebuilt these old Campbell Hausfeld compressors, and know the intricacies of the process.
I hope someone can shed some light on this.
Regards,
