Maybe someone can tell me if this can be repaired and be safe ? This grinder runs fine but when I decided to replace the cord and take a look inside this is what I found. Maybe liquid tape or something similar ? Thanks

I have the same issue with one of mine. The suggestions I received were liquid tape. I was going to heat shrink as much as I could, then liquid tape the rest. Thankfully another member hooked me up with a good stator, I should be able to drop it in next week.

I plan on replacing most of this wire . I was just concerned about the bare wire coming out of stator . I got some stuff an aircraft mechanic give me that should insulate this wire. He said it's the best.

I hope I can get it clean so solder will stick where I put connect the new wire. I will post updates. .

Because of the age of this block grinder I was sort of thinking the wiring might be bad in places. That's the only place I see and I assure because its the power wire.

It was also not equipment grounded as someone has just put a two prong end on the power cord and taped it right where you plug it in . Disaster waiting to happen.

Otherwise the grinder runs great and it's nice and quite. Starts the second power is applied.

I may not even tear it down all the way because the bearings are good.

My grinder is now working great. I will try and upload some pictures tomorrow. I am going to install a new grinding rock. This one passed the ping test but someone has used the side of the rock and I just don't trust it. It is a craftsman 7inch.

Any suggestions on where to find a quality 7 x 1 36 grit rock. I was going to order the Forney but many reviews said they was out of round out of the box. The one I got now seems to be a tad out. I may just keep what I got. Like I said it does pass the ring test. It is a Craftsman brand. Not sure but it could be the original.

I just got a 7" x 1" 80 grit wheel from McMaster, top brand but it still was a bit wobbly. I made a metal bushing to use instead of the multi step plastic one that came with the wheel, runs much more true now.

I ended ordering the Forney . Got it today. Installed and it was out of round like a bad tire. . Pretty bad. Didn't really wobble like a loose bushing. It runs true on the outside. It also had the plastic bushing which seems to fit great. It actually looks like a quality wheel. Not sure I can true it up. I would have to remove a good bit of the stone if I could get it true. I may send it back and try one more. I will report back
