I just purchased this vintage Craftsman floor standing drill press, and it's in excellent working condition. I also purchased several other pieces of equipment from the same gentleman yesterday, and plan to drive my trailer out later on this week or next to pick all of it up. I've never seen a Craftsman drill press that looked like this, and I'm trying to find out when it was built. My guess would be mid to late 1930s, but I am only guessing.

Would anybody here be able to determine when it was manufactured?

That is an Atlas drill press from the late 40's/early 50's if I remember right. I have the same one in Atlas garb. The only difference is mine is a desk top and says Atlas. It is a very good press, I love the vice that it came with. I need to get one badly.

Model number plates started in Early 1937. No Model plate and this is no doubt from mid 30s to 1936. Stock was a companion motor.

My guess is that this is a model 101.03661 from 1936 without the name plate or if you do find the plate, It could be a 101.03662 which was produced through the mid 1940s and ended when Craftsman moved to the new design that is common around here, the "100" and "150".

hope this helps.

Mike and Adrian,

Thanks for the replies. When I pick up the drill press I'll take a closer look at the base to see if there is an identification tag.

Nice find. It will be fun to see your new collection. That is the 1930's logo and design. I don't remember the exact details either, but I believe it was replaced with the King-Seeley model shortly after WWII. The question is, was that model produced during WWII or was it out of production earlier than that.
