Vintage Craftsman grinder, but it's not a block

Stumbled cross this today at the swap meet, 1 HP (human power). Wouldn't even have paid it much attention, but the wood handle caught my eye, then noticed it had the "shoe" (?) on the screw that clamps it to the bench as well as the tool rest, all of which are usually missing when I come across one of these. Wheel shows very little wear. Didn't realize it was a Craftsman till I was taking the pics, and just caught something under the grime. Hit it with a little brake clean, and was surprised to see "Craftsman".

Wow, that is a 2 person operation if you are trying to be precise in your grinding Nice find!

Those are pretty neat. I have a couple on the restoration list. Rumor has it that they are a bit hard to use. One of mine may get converted to drive a forge blower fan one of these days.

My dad has one that he still uses to sharpen his hatchet and garden tools with. Takes some practise and it is best with a helper to turn the handle but the stone has a fair bit of inertia so you can get it spinning, grind a little, give it a spin and repeat.

Was just given another vintage Craftsman grinder, and this one isn't a block either. Pretty cool, has 8" X 1-1/4" wheels, rugged tool rests. Has a Baldor 1/3HP TEFC motor, which the prior owner is using to overdrive the grinder. Need to check to see what the wheels are rated for. Has a lamp, quench cup, and ho made roll around cabinet base with some interesting items in some of the drawers.
