Vintage Craftsman Lathe - Value?

Ok, I know nothing about lathes. But I want to! This one popped up on Craigslist, for what I think is a good price. What does the GJ collective say is a good price for this? Anybody know a model number?

It's model 109. I wouldn't give more then $150 if it's in very good condition. This also depends on the tooling and extras. This is very lightweight machine and by overloading it you can break it easily. Check if the spindle is bent since this is one of the issues with this model.

It is the Dunlap version of the Craftsman lathe (not as valuable as the Atlas version), on a home made stand. I don't see change gears (and these are pretty hard to come by).

The headstock spindle on these is pretty small, and the tailstock is an odd MT 1 (which is also hard to find stuff for).

Those are pitiful excuses for lathes. I started out with a later version and became quickly frustrated with it.

You did well to pass.

Yep, my 1st lathe too. In my pre teens I thought it was fantastic. Then I got a real lathe and my eyes were opened. It will teach you a lot, mostly patience. The longitudinal feed on the end of the bed vs the saddle apron was the most infuriating aspect for me.

I don't recall that they made a stead rest for those though. :
