Vintage Craftsman pickup

Just got this with about 40 files, taps, and milling bits in it for $55. Last owner painted it blue. No rust & 75% of the drawers work well. Anyone know about this box or the dating of it? Can't find a serial number or anything. Not sure why the first photo keeps uploading turned, nothing I do fixes it

Damn that's an old one. Waterloo made their boxes for a long, long time.

You can date craftsman by googling the logo/era...

I found that if I use landscape mode on my phone that pictures come out upright when posted to the forum.

I don't recognize either of those boxes from the Craftsman Crown top era. My gut tells me they are something else and that someone added the Craftsman badge to the top chest. I base that on the following observations: 1) There are rivet holes in both boxes where something is missing (most likely the original badges). 2) To the best of my knowledge, Craftsman never used that style of handles on their boxes during this era. They appear to be Waterloo-made boxes but could have been sold under numerous names: Proto (my personal guess), Pow'r Kraft, Remline, and of course Waterloo.

I'm not saying they're not Craftsman, but if they are, I'd like to see a catalog showing this style.

BTW, Sebby, you got a sweet deal no matter who made them. Grats!

I have a Dayton branded Waterloo pair that has those handles. I just had a close look at it and noticed one difference from mine. The tabs that wrap around at the top front corners on mine angle down to be top of the box. The blue one stays as high as the sides and then has a rounded corner. Another difference between my Dayton and my red and gray Craftsman is the side panels on the Dayton are reversed. The Craftsman has the box frame on the outside and the Dayton is smooth on the outside with the box frame turned in. That leaves the middle of the drawer slides unsupported. However, the drawers interchange. I can't see the sides on the blue box.

Thanks for the info fellas! I ended up keeping about 10 files, a few taps, and some tape and sold the rest for $130

I buy and sell toolboxes, some people just don't know what they have and give it away!

I have that same top box in red grey and made by beach I don't about the bottom box but the top one should have this style hand I also have the top box in the Canadian tire version
