Alright time to add another tool project.
I have an old full metal Craftsman 1/3 sheet sander. The rubber pad that backs the sand paper was shredded from years of use and the plastic knob with a threaded base that should be sticking out the front to act as a handle is missing. However, the actual sander works perfectly and the cord is even in great condition.
No my problem is finding a replacement pad for the sander, and then finding a way to attach the pad to the metal backer. I have already scraped off the old pad, and it is down to painted metal. Also, where would I find a knob that I could use for this sander? I do see some new belt sanders that still use the old style knob as a forward handle (such as the the porter cable 504 belt sander) that offer the knob as a replacement part. Are the threads a standard size that they should be compatible?
Any advice on this is appreciated! Here are some pictures of what I'm dealing with.
