Many, many years ago a good friend of mine had a nice tool setup at his airplane hangar. Most all of his tools were Craftsman - probably 1970's vintage. Like most of us, he had a drawer or two devoted to sockets, and his socket organizer(s) were red sheetmetal Craftsman with all the holes, similar to the cheapo plastic design currently sold, but in sheetmetal with white size identifiers. Of all the people I've worked with over the years, this is the only one I've seen.

Been surfing online trying to find a picture of one, but coming up empty. Does anybody remember them? Pics?

My father has a metric and SAE set that he hardly uses thus can never find anything. I'm thinking about gifting him an Ernst Socket Boss just to handle all of his duplicates.

I've got one. Red sheet metal, a quarter inch high, and every time I closed the drawer the deep sockets fell over.

If you're still interested, I can take photos.

Like the one I have?

I'm not sure..

Memory is cloudy as it was 25-30 years ago that I last saw it. I'm thinking the layout was more like the one, or exactly like, the unit I just bought on ebay. Yours is a variation of that, and there could be more variations out there.

For my purposes, that ebay unit layout isn't very practical, being that hobby-wise I use mostly 1/4" drive and some 3/8" drive and no metric. And I get the point above that deep-wells may/would fall all over the place. When time permits I'll design something that will hold all of my sockets, shallow and deeps, as I have sheetmetal shop access at work.

Yes, would like to see a pic!

My tray is the same design as the one in the photo posted by DWise. It came with the used toolbox. You can see that there is an awful lot of wasted space, so I keep my sockets are on rails on top of it.

If you're interested, I would sell it to you.
