i bought this chest yesterday off kijiji. for 150 tools included. most of it is old snap on, gray, craftsman, vulcan? and proto. a few williams the down side is most of everything is engraved. but since im starting to work in a garage( if some read my other thread) i figured 150 was a nice price for everything

i have to change the lock. because the owner. lost the key. any way sears could replace it?. i was wondering bout vulcan?. its the first time ive seen that brand. would it be possible to buy the craftsman emblem?"

I've seen replacement locks on the shelf at Sears stores, that shouldn't be a problem to replace.

Looks like a box full of quality USA made tools.

The Vulcan stuff is made by Williams, years ago (80's) they had Vulcan trucks that sold to service shops.

Here's an old Vulcan side box:

Here's a wrench stamped Vulcan on one side, Williams on the other:

Nice vintage box.

I have one like it, my first box - bought it used in the 70s.

A few years ago it got a fresh coat of paint - RustOleum 245219 - Silver Hammered and 7762830 - Sunrise Red.

You can get a replacement lock at Sears.

Nice score, well worth the $150 you paid for it! I had almost that box as my first full size one back in the 70's. Mine had the upper center drawer pull on the top. The Craftsman keys are pretty common and if you pull the number off the face of the lock mechanism a good locksmith will be able to look it up and cut you a new key. Note; a lousey locksmith will try to sell you an entire generic lock mechanism, walk away. May be able to buy that Craftsman emblem off thier parts website. Good luck.

Same top my dad bought in the sixties or early seventies. Good boxes.

I wonder if a replacement logo isn't available from Sears or easily found on Ebay, could you have a sign shop with a vinyl machine make reproduction stickers?

i went to sears and they say they dont have the lock for it anymore. they told me to call the 1800 number and maybe theyll have it. the number on the front of the lock is wp23. so i went to home depot. and got a lock that fits(but i have to cut the latch to fit. cause the one i bought is straight and i need like a hook) cause i need it to for tomorrow.
