how old is my vise, says craftsman under the vice it says japan bf item# 3315188. and is it steel or a cheaper metal

John: probably 1970's. are you able to post any pictures? i use the paperclip just above where we write our posts and attach pictures sort of like attaching pics to an email. i'm guessing it's red, but there are several versions of Craftsmans MADE IN JAPAN vises. they might be one of the most popular vises bought new in the 60's thru 80's and usually pretty dependable and built out of good metal.
