I just picked up on old drill press and discovered it's a Delta DP220. I believe by the serial number it dates back to the late 30's. (Serial# 1 - xxxx, on old original badge) Anyway I got it just to have a good drill press but now I'm kind of excited by age. I am not interested in a full restore right now but, I do think it would look cool with an original pulley/belt cover instead of the fabbed cover someone put on before me or the guy before me had it. I'm curious what your opinions are about leaving it alone or getting a period correct cover? Sorry about the bad pic... I can post better later but you definitely see the cover i am talking about.

If that is one that just had the front pulley covered and the rest exposed you should have a good chance of finding one on Ebay.

Quick search found this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELTA-ROCKW...cf3cbd9&pid=100011&rk=1&rkt=1&sd=371443145436

If it were me I'd get the correct cover and if you were really worried about the belts being exposed I'd rather see something from polycarbonate than what is there.

Remove the current cover and post some more pictures. I'm sure somebody can tell you if the cover like the one linked above will fit.

Well I've purchased a Delta front cover off eBay. Now I am going to have to figure out how to remount the switch that is unfortunately mounted to the frame that holds the big ugly hood. I would appreciate any ideas for mounting the switch? Pics would be awesome!!!

If that's a pic of the cover you bought on eBay, it won't fit your drill press. You have the slow ( bigger ) pulley on yours. You need to find a slow speed pulley cover. Google delta dp220 and you can find a parts blow up with the part number you need. Thats a pretty elaborate homemade cover on yours. I kinda like it.

The pic from the top view looks like a slow speed pulley. Maybe it's not.

I kinda jumped the gun on that cover purchase. After the fact I discovered there is a slow pulley variation. I measured the pulley and it is approx 5 1/2", so I should be good. The down side is I was kinda hoping it is the slow speed because I got it to mainly drill steel. But, I would only be drilling up to 1/8" wall, so again I think I'm still good.

I still have to reconfigure that switch? I've got ideas but I would like to hear/see ideas you have. It has a plastic outlet housing. Not ideal. Low to no cost solution is what I'm looking for now.

Someone relocated mine to motor mounting plate. I see you have a piece of wood there, maybe screw it to that? Nice DP by the way, you may want to check out OWWM they have a lot of smart people there.

That piece of wood is just a wedge to push out the motor mount. I need to find correct size bolts that screw in bottom of of each side piston that sets tension on pulley/belt? Thank you for the info on OWWM. I just registered and I hope to find out some good info.
