I got this today from a friend. It has been in his back woods for years. He was going to scrap it, but asked if I wanted it. It looks to be a two speed, very small drill press. It has a WARDWAY motor and the only numbers I can find on the press are 711 (on the handle) and 707 on the arm of the press itself. Any ideas what it is and an approximate age? Thanks!

Seems like Wardway was a brand of….. Montgomery Wards, in the late 1920s. See it on a lot of Washing machines in this catalog. And Homes, pg 428.

Someone may have repurposed the motor to drive the drill press. I have not found an electric driven drill press in their catalogs of that era yet.

I agree, I was also thinking the motor might have been a repurpose. It seemed kinda overkill for such a small press. I also had wondered if it might be some sort of production press.....it looks like you could drill 700 holes and hour with it. The chuck looks like it's keyless and that table is tiny. I don't know, just a thought. If the motor is possibly late 20's I wonder what's the drill press's age? It's an interesting little thing. I plan on getting it working again.
