Tacoma, Washington 1950s.
Photo taken looking north at the intersection of South 11th Street and Broadway in the heart of downtown Tacoma.
Rhodes Brothers department store at left on corner. Kress's was a few doors north. The triangular-shaped building at the end of the block is Gunderson's Jewelers.
On the right: Woolworth's. At the end of the block on the right is the Roxy Theater - originally the "Pantages Theater", which was restored in the mid 1980s.

Lots of old car magazines, and advertising cut from others like National Geographic. I think it's Dec/69 that had the big block Chevelle SS/Mission Impossible ad in the back pages. Keep your eyes peeled for a copy of that one. Otherwise, a parts book merchandizer that sat on a countertop somewhere. It holds a collection of still relevant info.

I used to subscribe to Cars & Parts, it was a great publication. One of the columnists was a U of Michigan professor who studied the auto industry. His observations were always interesting. The Davis article made for a great read. Thanks.

Pictures like those are always such a reminder of the bad old days when wearing eye protection, gloves or any safety equipment was seen as somehow 'soft'.. Even allowing for the subjects being smartened up and having neat hair for the photograph, no safety specs etc in the picture even for the chap with sparks flying at him!

There's some interesting stuff on this thread, so prompted to contribute.. Here's the 1948 Land Rover brochure, I think it's the earliest one as it shows a prototype model built with the driver's seat and steering in the centre of the vehicle. Unless anyone else knows better:

Spread it over 2 posts for image quality..

Here's the poster advert from the same era, but for 86" wheelbase model so a bit later. As far as I know this is the earliest one of that model..

I remember reading a magazine article about 30 years ago in which they attempted to locate the place and see if the original sign post was still there. They didn't find it and the search was inconclusive although Merrow and Newlands Corner are actual places not far apart.

dang, my 69 Impala must have been Frost Green, with a dark green vinyl top. Best thing about that car was that you could throw a fully assembled 10 speed bike in the trunk, without taking the wheels off.

Hello everyone,

my collection includes a lot of old paperwork from the 1950s to the 80s -
500 brochures from all over the world, 100 manuals, 150 advertising, press photos, microfiches, books (beside technical: travel, children, car design) - but with focus around VWs and Eribas - including accessories as "Kamei" or parts as "HELLA"... or since some years tools as "HAZET".

Much of it is also scanned online and not only gathering dust in the attic...

Didn’t the dead bodies get in the way? Must have been room for a couple of them.😉 Look at the size of the trunk on my Daddy’s Caprice.46980086-B1AE-4801-8E7D-C4FABCF8B17E.jpeg

Nah, only if you had more than two or three. With one the bike easily fit right on top.
