I was told they are the first ever Snap-On before the 1920's release...they have no markings or codes or whatsoever...except the "T" which has frank mossberg on it...this is the complete set. How much do you guys think they cost?

I'm surprised that Snap on didn't just outright try and buy them from you. Take the 12K a year. It's better than what you're getting from them just sitting there.

Why can't you put them on display with Snap on, pocket the money, and sell them in year after you've done more research? Snapmom would be the person to ask about old Snap on tools. I think the collector tool market would be hard to gauge in today's fluid economy and greed usually screws up the best deals.

What backup do you have to say they are Snap on. Without it they will not sell for very much. Snap on's on photos and reproductions of their first sets look nothing like these.

Nothing Snap on about them. They are clearly Mossberg, and mossberg sockets and drivers are not worth much, as they are extremely common.

Just kinda reminds me of a kid who was on the site about 3 years ago... Convinced that Snap on would pay $10,000 or so for an old Snap on rusty box (The kind many people have here who pay $50-$100 for) or Snap on would give him a brand new box. His reliable source was his dad and dads friends.... He got a little :shocking: by some members here when he adamantly insisted it was worth thousands.

So... The OP of this post is what?

1. A kid with delusions.
2. A grown up liar
3. A Troll

One of the three....

i'm guessing three.........

let em have it. No doubt if you got 12000 a year for something you might have gotten for a steal of a price. If I had it it would have already been up there and i would not have taken the time to ask anyone about what to do with it. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. In this case A LOT

Let's assume for a moment that they were genuine... which it doesn't appear they are, but nevertheless - even IF they were real, who in their right mind would pay someone $1000/mo for something that's worth maybe a few hundred bucks tops to begin with?

Its amazing how his post got all twisted around.

He came here asking a question not trying to sell them. I don't see where Snap On was offering to rent them for a 12 months.

Interesting stuff, I'd take the 1st $1000 upfront and let it go from there.

So what is the value of very early Snap On sets? I know absolutly nothing about vintage tools.

I beg to differ. He may have been hoping to find someone really greedy on the site willing to buy them so they could cash in on that $1000 a month. Let's review:

1. "i was approached by snap-on to put it on display and be paid a thousand dollars a month" = "I've already got a cash cow setup with Snap On"

2. "i wanna know if the tools i have is worth much more for the collector's to buy" = "I'm willing to unload these babies quick!"

3. Even if he was approached by Snap On as he claims, why would he turn down what is essentially FREE MONEY to RENT something he obviously is not using, has no use for, and has no idea what its worth? Because he wants to make some lucky collector very happy?

I think that those look like they would tear the first time anyone tried to put any real torque on them. Looks like expanded metal tubing to me.

Hi,

Hey you guys are being rather tough we do not want to scare this member away.
I find it rather hard to believe that snap on would pay $1000.. per month but then who am I too judge a big tool co.

I also think if the set is marked Mossberg it is not snap on but maybe someone added this piece to the set?

Yes it does look more and more like Starrett but we should not be calling any member bad names.

lets face it we were not around 100 years ago it is a whole different ballgame back then.

I don't think we should be insulting people here. That is not the purpose of this forum. We all have some delusions about ourselves and our belongings. That is just part of human nature. Bottom line is that I enjoyed the pics and some of us learned something about older tools.

No one from Snap on would ever offer $1000 a month for old tools. Even if Snap on wanted old tools they would just buy them from where we all get Stuff EBAY...

If you really believe that Snap on would offer this kind of money and for any tools then you probably still believe in the Easter bunny and Santa Claus.

I don't know, they did buy one of those OCC choppers. I bet it ran them over $100K. :bounce:

I agree. Probably should lay off the name calling. I'd personally like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt but a lot of people here have very valid points for calling BS on his claim. Now it's up to him to either validate his claim, say he was mistaken or just full of BS. So far he's the only one that has remained silent on this matter....

I don't think they are Starrett because the form of the drive square on the handle is much more sophisticated. I have a '29 Starrett catalog showing that set (which I think was thoroughly obsolete by then) and I think it still shows the crude coupler area.
The early Mossberg pressed sockets shown at Alloy Artifacts also have crude shoulderless drive ends.
From the modern shape of the drive squares shown above, I think this is likely a 19 teens set of sockets with newer handle or perhaps a very late attempt by the manufacturer to sell a few more of an obsolete socket set with his then-current handle design.

Waiting for the OPs 3rd post to vindicate himself. I would like to hear who from SO made that great offer. And what the truth to this story is.

But my gut feeling on this one is:

A search on charlienibbs returns a Facebook page on a young man named Charlie Nibbs and an Ebay account with not much activity. Doesn't look like he has spent any time on other forums with that user name.
