I am in the process of trying to tune this old GE motor I bought of CL. I need a bench grinder for sharpening my tools when woodturning and this was setup with a 4 inch grinding wheel.
I took it home, plugged it in, and noticed that it has a wobble that makes it impractical to use as a bench grinder. I measured all the sides of the grinding wheel and they seemed even, so I figured I would take it apart to see if I could determine the source of the wobble.
This is what I've noticed so far, it wobbles with the wheel, not noticeable without.
Update: I took apart and reassembled the housing to a point, I got stuck taking the end caps off, but it seems like it isn't a problem with the motor.
It only wobbles with the grinding wheel on. The wheel and it's mounting are noticeably off center when I attach it to the shaft. The shaft seems straight coming out of the motor. Any ideas?
