$65 obo = $50?, sounds good if you have room. It's got some robust grinding guides or rests but no wheel covers. I'm not sure of the voltage but I've seen a buffer similar to that that ran on 220 single phase which would make that unit more attractive to me. I'm curious why the motor isn't bolted down.

I've never seen one of those but even if the motor turns out to be fried, for 65 bucks you can't go wrong. Drop another motor in and you're up and running.

I have not used a grinder like that, but I have worked with belts like that, and their presence tells me nothing you do with the human body is going to slow that thing down.

Perhaps intended as more of a buffer than a grinder, at least that's what I would use it for. Nice for large workpieces where ample clearance is needed. I'll add to the above comments: buy it.

Cool old grinder. Note that the "GE" plate shown is only for the motor starter, the make of the motor may not be GE, and it is extremely unlikely the machine itself was made by GE.

If it was in my area, I'd buy it if I had lots of room for a display piece, or had a need for a huge, potentially dangerously powerful industrial grinder, and was willing to fabricate guards for it.

Also keep in mind those arbors are very large; finding wheels to fit will likely be a challenge, and certainly will be expensive.

That large handwheel says to me that the motor is hinged at the rear and will tip when the wheel is turned and tighten the belt tension.

I was wondering about that wheel.

The buffer I looked at had a more modern but equally big motor with a centrifugal clutch on it that would adjust to control the speed of the wheels. The top mandrel was 4' wide and it had dust collector shrouds on the ends. The top of the square box body was a 6" high walled box that you stored all your buffing media and wheels in. He wanted $400 firm and I went back to buy it but he'd gone and I never could reach him after that. This unit here does look more like a grinder.

Oh hell yes! I'd have had the truck on the road above the legal limit the second I saw that beast. $60 is a you-****-steal. I'd still buy it at $160 and ff the motor worked, maybe at $260.

Pixs saved for posterity .
I`ll bet that runs like a champ.
When you get it pull the motor apart and clean it and the bearings out then re grease them .
Find out the original colors and restore that old odd ball beasty.
There`s nothing like that quality anymore.

As sweet as it is I had a bigger need come my way over the holidays... Brake line went out.... broke 2 of the cheap-o flaring tools... so I said screw it and bought one of the Eastwood professional faring tools. It became a need over want.... Probably be my first regret of 2018!
