I have this hack saw (or utility saw?) that I got from my father. This has been a handy little saw over the years, but now there is a split in the blade making it much less stable. I have been looking for a source for some new blades for it but so far have struck out. Anyone know of what brand of saw this is? More importantly where I can get some new blades for it?

They are usually referred to as Pistol Grip Hacksaws and they have fallen out of the popularity circuit. I have two similar ones, and have not seen blades for some time.

Currently, there are a couple of saws on Ebay for $5, it might be the best route until you find some at a garage sale etc. They are an actual hacksaw blade, not a wood cutting blade ( key hole).

I have thought of modifying a reciprocating saw blade but so far all have been just a tad too wide. Less than 1/4" that I could grind off. But then there is the tang at the rear of the blade. I would guess grinding would alter the temper of the blade. Not sure what would happen if I tried to snap off the tang.

I can't find anything like it on Ebay using "pistol grip hacksaw". If I found one with good blades I'd probably get it, but then again how can I tell good the blades are from pictures?

I found these and can check them out for you if you provide some dimensions.

Can send them to you or if you are close to Ontario, you could look.

No you won't get a replacement from market but you can make your own from broken hacksaw blades.

I've got a couple of those. Always figured I could cut down a sawzall blade with a pair of tinsnips.

you know... I bought mine as a kit... after re-reading all this I'm not sure if it's a Stanley or not.... I needed it to cut ONE hole in something about 20 years ago. came with two (or three?) different blades, and I recall one of them was a pretty fine-tooth unit - suitable for cutting metal. I'd just poke around at a real hardware store that carries a good selection of tools and see if you can find a match.

because there's no consistency in the way Ebay sellers list things, the only way you'd find it there is by searching "saw" and that would return 9 million listings.

I would trim a sawzall diablo blade to fit using a dremel cutoff tool.
I'm going to try cutting down a Diablo sawzall blade if the Stanley or Kobalt keyhole saw blades are too large. I measured the blade and it is 18mm or 13/16" wide.

I pulled out the old pistol grip saw to cut a slot in a washing machine hose end that is seized on the faucet. Just before I started to cut I noticed the the blade had a split half way across the blade. Then I remembered why I had been looking for replacement blades for that saw. I did not want to start cutting the hose end and have the saw blade break while I was half done, so yesterday I went to HD to get a blade and could not find anything. I did pick up a Stanley Mini Hacksaw and today I started cutting with the Stanley. The blade came loose twice and was flexing on me. I grabbed the old pistol grip saw with the broken blade and finished the cut in nothing flat. I'm taking the Stanley back and definitely going to find or make a blade for the old saw.

I have just such a hardware store in mind, but it is a drive in a area I rarely go. I'm going to have to make a special trip. Sadly, the "real" hardware stores are getting fewer and fewer.
